Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Bite collects when you use the app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it to what the product genuinely needs to suggest meals and build your shopping list.
Overview
Bite ("Bite", "we", "us") is an AI meal-planning app that proposes meals and builds shopping lists tailored to your tastes. This policy applies to the Bite mobile app and this website. It is written for individuals in the United Kingdom and European Economic Area under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, and we apply the same standards to users elsewhere.
The data controller responsible for your information is the operator of Bite. You can reach us at team@bitemeals.site for any privacy question or request.
What we collect
We collect the following, and nothing we don't need to run the product:
- Account information. Bite creates an anonymous account for you automatically, so you can start without signing up; this is tied to a Bite account identifier, not your name. Signing in is optional and only used to sync across devices — you can sign in with Apple or link an email address. With Sign in with Apple we receive an identifier and, if you allow it, your name and an email address (which may be Apple's private relay address). We never receive your Apple password.
- Your food preferences. The tastes, dietary choices, allergies or foods to avoid, household size, and time constraints you enter so Bite can plan for you.
- Plans and activity. The meal plans generated for you, the meals you accept, swap, or skip, and your shopping lists. This history is what lets the suggestions improve.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription or not. Payments are handled by Apple; we receive your subscription state through RevenueCat, not your card details.
- Device and usage data. App version, device model, operating system, language and region, a device identifier used for app integrity checks and notifications, and basic analytics events (for example, that a plan was generated).
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, or health-app data. If you turn on calendar sync, Bite adds your planned meals to your calendar with your permission; this is write-only, and Bite does not read your existing events.
How we use it
- To generate meal suggestions and shopping lists tailored to you.
- To learn your preferences over time so the plans get more on-point.
- To deliver the app's core features, including reminders and notifications you enable.
- To manage subscriptions and to confirm your access level.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and verify app integrity.
- To diagnose problems and understand which features are used, in aggregate.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
AI meal planning
Bite uses AI models to turn your preferences into meal suggestions. To produce a plan, we send the relevant inputs (such as your tastes, dietary constraints, time available, and recent plan history) to our AI processing provider. We do not send your name, email, or payment information for this purpose.
Suggestions are generated for planning convenience. They are not nutritional, dietary, or medical advice, and they may contain mistakes, including about ingredients and allergens. Always check ingredients yourself if you have an allergy or intolerance.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, cloud functions, app integrity (App Check), analytics, and push messaging.
- RevenueCat — managing subscription state and entitlements.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and all in-app purchases and billing through the App Store.
- Our AI processing provider — generating meal plans from the inputs described above.
Each provider is permitted to use the data only to deliver its service to us.
Legal bases for processing
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract — to provide the app and the features you ask for.
- Legitimate interests — to improve suggestions, keep the service secure, and understand usage, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — for optional notifications and any processing where we ask for it; you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests.
Data retention
We keep your account information and preferences for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records (for example, transaction records) to meet legal obligations. You can request deletion at any time from the Support page or by emailing us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email team@bitemeals.site. We respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA and are not satisfied, you may complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted, and we use app integrity checks to limit abuse. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to notify you and the relevant authority if a breach legally requires it.
International transfers
Our providers may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children
Bite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Bite after an update means you accept the revised policy.
